National Rural Crime Action Week: Protecting Cambridgeshire's Countryside

This week marks National Rural Crime Action Week, an opportunity to raise awareness of the issues affecting our countryside and highlight the work being carried out by Cambridgeshire Constabulary's dedicated Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT).

Rural crime can have a significant impact on farmers, landowners, businesses and residents. From theft of machinery, equipment and fuel to wildlife crime, hare coursing and off-road vehicle nuisance, offences committed in rural areas can have serious consequences for livelihoods, communities and the local environment.

Cambridgeshire's Rural Crime Action Team works across the county to tackle these issues through a combination of intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols, crime prevention activity and partnership working. Officers work closely with local communities, neighbouring police forces, rural organisations and partner agencies to identify emerging crime trends, target offenders and protect those who live and work in our rural areas.

Over the course of the week, we will be highlighting different aspects of rural policing, including the importance of community intelligence, partnership working, crime prevention and the role local residents play in helping keep our countryside safe.

The information provided by farmers, landowners, rural businesses and members of the public is vital in helping officers build an accurate picture of what is happening across Cambridgeshire. Reports of suspicious activity, no matter how small they may seem, can help identify crime hotspots, link offences and support enforcement activity.

National Rural Crime Action Week is also an opportunity to recognise the strong relationships that exist between policing and rural communities across Cambridgeshire. By working together, sharing information and remaining vigilant, we can continue to protect our countryside, support rural livelihoods and make it increasingly difficult for offenders to operate.
